It’s time once again – the 2020 Indie of the Year awards have commenced! These player-voted awards are the original and best way for gamers to make it known how much they appreciate the creative works of independent developers.
We’ve Needed Games More Than Ever In 2020
What a year to start off a new decade of indie games. Not just in terms of the start of a new generation of gaming consoles, but of course with a global pandemic that has rocked countries and challenged many of us in a multitude of ways. It’s meant many of us in our community have dealt with months of lockdown, and not being able to see our family and friends for long periods. From gamers, to developers and even the staff of IndieDB.
So we want to thank developers, for being so dedicated and passionate in your craft. Every year, and especially somehow in 2020. And now is the time to make it known how much we appreciate developers and their efforts, by voting for our favorites to determine the best released, and best upcoming, indie games of 2020. We look forward to celebrating these awards with you and hope they help you connect with our amazing community, whatever you’re going through right now.
Phase 1: Nominations Begin
Over the next 10 days, a voting booth will appear on every indie game’s profile page. Simply visit the profile for the game you wish to vote for, and hit the “vote now” button to submit your preference.
Phase 2: The Top 100
Nominations will close on December 10, and will then be tallied to determine the Top 100 games of the year. This list will be revealed on December 11, and then, voting on games in this Top 100 will begin for another 10 days, to determine the 2020 Indie of the Year!
Phase 3: Indie of the Year 2020 Revealed
Come Christmas, the final awards will be rolled out over a series of days. The announcements will be presented as follows:
- Editors Choice Awards (22nd December)
- Players Choice: Unreleased Indie Game (27th December)
- Players Choice: Indie of the Year 2020 (29th December)
The 2020 event sponsor Core Games, will also be sharing their 2020 editors choice picks, for the top games created on Core.

Developers, you should make as much noise about your game as possible to get it in front of potential voters! Luckily, we’ve created some tools to help you do just this.
